Our Nursery. . .

Nursery Aims
"Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. A child's experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in it's own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. When parents choose to use early years services they want to know that provision will keep their children safe and help them to thrive. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework that provides that assurance"
(Extract from The Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework)

The aims of the nursery are to provide a safe and well-balanced environment for children. An environment which meets all children's needs from care to education of a high standard. Working closely with the EYFS framework we are confident that all children in our care will achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving economic well being.

What education will we provide?
We will provide education taken from the Early Learning Goals, we will offer educational needs in six areas, which are Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World and finally Mathematical Development.

Personal, Social, and Emotional Development.
This area is where children can develop personal skills such as being independent and completing tasks unaided such as bathroom skills, gaining social skills by working and playing with other children of the same age and finally gain the knowledge needed to express feelings in a variety of ways i.e. though discussion, play and learning.

Physical Development.
This is an area where children can develop gross motor skills such as hopping, skipping, jumping, running, etc by using a wide range of equipment around nursery building, it is also where children can use and develop their fine motor skills for drawing, colouring, painting, chalking, cooking, etc. In this area children can also learn about special awareness for themselves and other people in the environment with them.

Communication, Language and Literacy.
This area is where children can develop their knowledge on looking at books, following the words and gain knowledge on talking within a group on specific topics and the listening skills needed when someone else is talking.

Creative Development.
This is the area that children gain knowledge to express their feelings and emotions through their art work, in this area children can also learn how to use a variety of materials such as paint, crayons, chalk etc and produce pictures of specific things for their walls around nursery.

Knowledge and Understanding of the world.
This area provides children with knowledge of the world that they live in, we look at the globe and people who live in their countries, their lifestyle and how much more fortunate we are compared to others. This area also allows us to look at cultures that may be different to our own, the festivals that other people celebrate and the types of clothes that arte worn, we will encourage the children to take part in some of the festivals and respect other people's point of views. This area also gives children the chance to look to animals, the different types; we may even attend day trips to local places of interest to broaden the children's knowledge.

Mathematical Development.
This area gives the children chance to look at numbers and how they are formed, how to write them and use them in everyday life. This area also gives the children the opportunity to look at telling the time, balancing objects, looking at opposites i.e. heavy and light etc, sequencing and routines that we have to follow on a daily basis. As a nursery we will endeavour to put all of the areas into the weekly timetable and give the child the best start in life possible.

EYFS Profile.
On starting nursery, each child will have a development folder, this will be profiled in accordance with the EYFS framework. This will include weekly development and progress pages and photographs which will move with the child through each room and upon leaving the nursery.
Parents are welcome to view these profiles whenever they want. We also hold parents evening every 6 months where you can discuss your child's progress and development with their key worker.
